In the first of a weekly feature, we take you behind the scenes at the brewery to meet the people who make all the great things that happen here possible.
Today we're introducing you to the main man - our Head Brewer, Gareth Moule. Often found hosting brewery tours, knee-deep in our mash tun or thinking up flavoursome new recipes in our mini lab, his love of beer and brewing comes out in the tasty ales he brews. We caught up with him for five minutes between brewing to ask a few questions about what it's like to work at one of the most successful breweries in Wales...
So, Gareth, what's your favourite Tomos Watkin beer and why?
My favourite beer is our IPA. It's fresh, hoppy and very easy to drink, with lovely aromas of peach and citrus.
How long have you been brewing?
I've been brewing for 5 years, all of them spent happily here at Tomos Watkin!
Why did you enter the brewing industry?
Primarily due to my love of beer. I have travelled to Belgium, California, New York and all around the UK tasting beers and wanted to learn how to be a part of that process.
What do you like most about working at Tomos Watkin Brewery?
I love being able to brew such a tasty range of beers and do a really hands-on job, where there is a finished product at the end for people to enjoy. It's a really enjoyable process to be honest, and being a part of everything - from the conception to the finished beer - is such a satisfying experience.
Which beers are in the pipeline next?
We are working on something very special to celebrate our love of Swansea, with details to be revealed soon... We also have a new stout in keg called Black Jack, a rich and velvety smooth ale full of delicious roasted chocolate and coffee flavours.
Stay tuned for next week's instalment of Meet The Team. In the meantime, you can shop our award-winning ales and ciders right here.
